Inspiring Stories and Sporting Ambitions Shared at the SportsAid Northampton Lunch

Oct 09, 2025 2 min read

The latest SportsAid Northampton Lunch brought together an afternoon of inspiration, ambition and celebration of young sporting talent. All our sponsors and guests enjoyed an engaging and heartfelt talk from Olympic silver medallist Gail Emms MBE, who shared her journey from local badminton courts to the Olympic stage.

Gail spoke passionately about the influence of her mum – one of the original Lionesses in the 1970s – who first introduced her to sport and never let her win, fuelling her determination to improve. That competitive spirit became the foundation of Gail’s Olympic success, earning her a silver medal and teaching her the importance of resilience, hard work and learning from failure on the road to achievement.

Her message of perseverance and belief in one’s potential resonated deeply with the audience, including four of SportsAid’s rising stars who attended the lunch:

Each of these talented young athletes is at a pivotal stage in their sporting journey, working tirelessly towards their next major goals, from national championships to international competitions.

Their dedication, enthusiasm and commitment to their sports perfectly reflect the spirit of SportsAid and the importance of continued support for young athletes across the region.

We’d like to thank the organisers, sponsors, and all their guests for their invaluable contribution to the day and their ongoing support in helping young athletes achieve their dreams.

The event was another reminder of the power of sport to inspire, connect, and transform lives and of the incredible determination it takes to turn ambition into achievement.
