Peterborough SportsAid, established in 2004, focuses on giving awards to youngsters aged 12 to 18 in able-bodied sports and for all ages in disabled sports to help with costs such as travel, training, accommodation, competition fees and equipment. We have awarded grants to the value of £110k to over 250 young sports men and women in the Peterborough area.
Colin Hendry is a retired Scottish professional footballer, and he was an important member of the Blackburn Rovers squad which won the English Premier League title in 1995 and Captain of Scotland at the World Cup Finals. Aside from the Premier League win, Colin was part of the Rangers squad that won the Scottish domestic treble in 1998/99. He has since had management stints at Blackpool and Clyde. Colin first played for local clubs, Keith of the Scottish Highland Football League, and Islavale – a North Scottish Junior Football League Club, mainly as a striker. He began his full-time professional career in 1983 with Dundee, and in 1987 was transferred to Blackburn Rovers, where he was converted into a defender.
Colin Hendry remains a celebrated figure in Scottish football and among Blackburn Rovers fans, for his contributions to the club’s historic Premier League title win.
We’ve been honoured to host an impressive variety of guest speakers in recent years. See who else has generously given their time to make our lunches special occasions.
All the businesses and individuals who sponsor our charity have one thing in common: a desire to help talented young athletes who may otherwise miss out on training and competition to grasp every opportunity available to them and fulfil their potential.
We’re extremely grateful for their generous support and look forward to continuing our collaboration for many years to come. Why not join them?
